A discussion of the forms of life in tide pools

We learned that there are two groups of challenges marine life must overcome when living in a tidepool. These are called abiotic factors or non-biological factors. It provides stunning views of the ocean and the San Diego Area. Each creature is explained with what they are and how they survive in the tide pools by clinging to rocks.

What makes a good tidepool? When the seawater rises, the areas are flooded again and the cycle continues. Episodes also introduce experts in the field and interview people related to conservation, preservation and teaching about the marine environment.

Tide Pool Life

The bigger one is used to block out the predators when the crab is in its shell. At first glance, these patterns may appear random.

This area is located just north of the more well known treasure island. The last creature that is not a crab, is a the lobster, when it is in the tide pool it does its best to hid and not get eaten by its predators, but the lobster is a predator itself.

Chapter three is about the swimming creatures such as the different fish like the shannies, pipefish, the clingfish, rocklings, and then the sea scorpion. This book should be read either for fun or during a science lesson on Marine Biology.

What is a Tide Pool

There are several large pools that support hundreds of urchins and other marine life. Sandy beaches are not considered as tide pools as there is no hard surface for plants and animals to attach on too.

These are referred to as biological or biotic factors. These include predation from other animals, competition for living space, competition for food and human impacts. The park has great tide pools, hiking trails and one of the better coastal camp grounds.
