The children love the approach — actions, drama, text maps and boxing up. It has made an unbelievable difference. We believe that it is essential that children at risk of literacy difficulties receive a good start to literacy learning both at school and at home.
All of my KS1 children have made good or outstanding progress. It is a well-structured approach that differentiates, informs and really helps.
The class book was a fantasy book called Darkmouth by Shane Hegarty a bit hit! The hands-on workshops provide both practical and enjoyable ideas for developing early literacy skills.
No one likes a routine that has become repetitive and tiresome, but the initial genesis of TfW came from the premise that many children in the UK do not have an library of books at home to read, love and use to inform their own writing.
I have now completed all the courses. Each participating parent receives a comprehensive resource kit to support home literacy development as well as an instructional DVD and booklets containing additional information, activities and tips.
